Rajant Corporation was established in October 2001, after founders Robert Schena and Paul Hellhake identified significant shortcomings in traditional wireless mesh networks. The nation had suffered the worst domestic terrorist assault in history, and the two recognized inherent weaknesses in existing mobile voice and data networks used by first responders.

While traditional mesh technology enabled the formation of fixed ‘ad hoc’ communications networks, it did not provide for true mobility, nor did it allow for scalability. The Rajant team envisioned a new, more robust mesh technology that would allow networks to grow stronger as nodes were added, and to be truly mobile – with all nodes and clients able to be in motion, all the time, and all application data able to use the best available frequency.

The new company’s management team, which had successfully raised over $300 million in funding for previous ventures, gained financial backing and set to work on their concept.

Today, Rajant is gaining recognition as the pioneer of the world’s most reliable, scalable, and readily deployed Kinetic Mesh network technology – with large, trusted installations providing 24x7x365 communications in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. The essence of Kinetic Meshing is motion and flexibility, qualities that are paramount in demanding applications such as mining and military.

The Rajant BreadCrumb solution is a highly mobile wireless network node that creates a wireless mesh with neighboring BreadCrumb nodes – both fixed and mobile. The core routing software, InstaMesh, enables nearly instantaneous connections to moving nodes, creating a highly resilient, high-bandwidth network. Some current Rajant BreadCrumb installations have hundreds of radios moving in real-time, maintaining high bandwidth connections and handling heavy application traffic.
