A BreadCrumb® is a portable wireless device that uses the IEEE 802.11b, b/g or a/b/g protocol; also known as Wi-Fi. BreadCrumbs can mesh with peers as well as associate with clients in Infrastructure or Ad-Hoc mode. Some of the unique features of BreadCrumbs is that they are adaptable to various environments in terms of providing connectivity and flexible enough to support a variety of data applications. This makes them suitable for emergency applications typical for Mining, First Responders, Fire Fighters, Police and the Armed forces. This generic nature of BreadCrumbs has given opportunities to connect remote places and especially those from which a large amount of information is to be received.

Apart from rapid deployments and quick connectivity, BreadCrumbs can also be used as permanent installations in urban areas. These settings can be used for daily industrial applications to provide broadband connectivity or as backup systems in case of failure of primary links.
