Rajant Corporation and The University of Louisville IT Research Center Deliver Crisis Information Communications System for State and Local Health Departments
Rajant Wireless BreadCrumb(R) Platform Provides State of Kentucky Department for Public Health with Real-time Information Sharing to Facilitate Decision Making in Public Health Emergencies.
MALVERN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rajant Corporation, a leading provider of portable, reliable, and adaptive wireless networking solutions, announced today its BreadCrumb® wireless products have been selected as an integral part of a new communications platform developed by the University of Louisville IT Research Center to improve response, preparedness and communication during a public health emergency.
"No one can predict when or where an emergency will occur," said William D. Hacker, M.D., commissioner for public health and acting undersecretary for health at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. "As a result, it was extremely important that the communications platform we selected could quickly link together local, state, federal and volunteer sources and provide users with a common operational system, giving public health workers and responders access to the critical operational data they need to make sound decisions quickly."
The joint solution, called Man-Portable Interoperable Tactical Operations Center (MITOC), is a result of a project funded by the Department of Homeland Security and the University of Louisville IT Research Center to improve emergency response communication. The solution integrates components providing broadband, satellite, cellular and LAN communications during an emergency incident. The Rajant BreadCrumb® solution was selected as the meshed wireless backbone to enable these diverse communication links to interoperate so that state, federal and volunteer personnel can communicate in real-time during an emergency public health situation.
"Success with the Kentucky Department for Public Health has led to the commercialization of MITOC for first responder markets," said James Graham, Director of the IT Research Center at the University of Louisville. "The Rajant BreadCrumb® is an essential part of the solution we need to deliver a portable communication platform to allow first responder teams to dramatically and immediately increase their ability to protect the health and safety of the communities they serve."
"Rajant is excited to be part of this innovative solution that links federal, state, and local communications in emergency situations," said Bob Schena, CEO of the Rajant Corporation. "This application further validates our value proposition of helping coordinate First Responders by providing quickly deployable, wireless mobile networks."
